Open and Affirming

Twenty years ago, we declared ourselves to be an "Open and Affirming" congregation. That means we covenant with one another to create a safe place for all people to worship regardless of race, creed, gender, cultural background, sexual orientation, or gender identity. First Congregational Church led the Central Pacific Conference in becoming the first Open and Affirming congregation in the Conference, which includes Oregon, Southwest Washington and Southern Idaho.

Our Open and Affirming committee plans and hosts social activities throughout the year for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer members and supporters, and each year we participate in Portland’s Pride celebration.
