April 2012:  Docents from Portland Art Museum.

The opening reception will be Sunday, April 1, 3 to 6:00 p.m.

This annual event features the work of 25 volunteer docents who enjoy this opportunity to call attention to their own work instead of their usual role of introducing visitors to the Portland Art Museum's collection of works by other artists.

The month-long exhibit features paintings, encaustic, photography, textiles, jewelry, drawings, prints and mixed media. Art works are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Art Reach Gallery of the First Congregational UCC and to the Docent Council to support museum educational programs for children.

Painting shown here is "Spike & Ike," a collage by Susan Schenk. The show runs through April 30, 2012.

May 2012: "Mary Pacios, A Retrospective" is a sampling of art by Ms. Pacios from 40 years of bold figurative work with brief flirtations in abstraction rendered in drawings, paintings and prints.

Artist Reception is Thursday, May 3, from 5 to 8:00 p.m.. Kim Swennes on Celtic Harp and Gypsy Jazz West will provide the music.

June 2012:  “NW Vibes,”  a new fiber art show by Portland-based group High Fiber Diet, opens with a First Thursday Artist Reception on June 7th,  from 5-8 p.m. Coordinated by Christina Brown.

High Fiber Diet is a fiber-art group affiliated with the Columbia FiberArts Guild of Portland; its members include fiber art and surface design teachers, book authors, professional art quilters and fiber artists. The High Fiber Diet blog http://hfd-highfiberdiet.blogspot.com/ lists the most recent shows and a membership roster with links to individual websites and blogs. NW Vibes contains 21 new art quilts and wearable art, including a piece by Bonnie Bucknam, best-of-show winner of the 2011 Quilt National.

What is it that makes the Northwest unique from the rest of the country?

There is a reason we have chosen to live here; is it the beauty of the landscape, the variation of the skies and weather, the character of the cities, or that you can get the best cup of coffee in the country at virtually every corner?

This show represents what makes living in the Northwest special to us.

July 2012:  Church member Art Show.

Attention participants in the All Church Art Show:

Hanging your art:  Tuesday, July 3, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Take down your art: Monday, July 30, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Reception for friends and family: Sunday, July 8, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Donations of goodies from artists will be appreciated. ArtReach will do coffee, water and punch.

Please submit to Elaine Molskness a written list of the art pieces you are planning to display and price if you wish to try and sell them. The list will need to be submitted by Sunday, June 3, 2012. Please limit the number of pieces to 3-5. If you wish to have some back-up pieces ready in case you can hang more, that will be fine. The pieces to hang will need to have some kind of cross wire or piece with a hole large enough for the hooks to be inserted. People with situations where this requirement won't work, please talk with Elaine.

Writers: Print a one-page copy of your writing and insert it into a plastic sleeve so it can be placed on a long table. Your name and title and any other information you want with your writing should be printed on the writing piece. Writers may submit up to 3 pieces if you wish. Plan on having about a 3 minute piece that you will read aloud.

Musicians: You can submit a piece you would like to lay or sing; again it would need to take only about 3 minutes to perform. Plan on introducing your piece to the audience and performing it. This information needs to be submitted to Elaine by Sunday, June 3, 2012.

Writers will probably read first, then the musicians will perform, and then there will be time for looking and socializing.

If you have questions please call or email Elaine Molskness at molsknes@spiritone.com or 503-659-6097.
